Established in 1995 by Ruth Layton, a qualified veterinary surgeon, rl consulting was formed to provide a new type of ethical consultancy service, primarily for food producers, with a particular emphasis on livestock.

Ruth and her fellow director, Roland Bonney, decided at the outset that they would focus their efforts on bringing practical ethics into the market place, as a means of both ensuring food safety and rebuilding fragile consumer confidence.

Their committment and foresight was vindicated, and then tested, in the explosion of BSE and Foot and Mouth onto the agricultural landscape during the last few years.

Today then, rl consulting are rightly seen as leaders in the field of animal welfare and ethical food production. This leadership is based on practical experience, technical expertise and continuous innovation.

More recently, rl consulting’s expertise has come to the attention of non-food sectors, namely the pharmaceutical industry, as well as ethical investment and fund management companies in the City.
